BACKGROUND:
CORCAS is composed of 140 members (14 women), who
represent an ethnic, political, and tribal cross-section of the Moroccan
society. Among CORCAS members are representatives of all Sahrawi tribes,
including the father of "Polisario Front" rebel army leader Mohammad
Abdelaziz.
Since the beginning of this year, CORCAS has had a
series of meetings and forums around the world to tackle the complex issues
surrounding the autonomy and the social, economic and political
reintegration of Moroccans living in the southern provinces. This week, a
CORCAS delegation is visiting Washington, DC to meet with US congressional
members, government officials, and academia and think tank representatives.
