Position Summary
IREX seeks candidates with deep knowledge and experience in education to utilize their network with key players across the education spectrum and their experience in event management to facilitate pertinent school, historical, and cultural experiences for U.S. secondary teachers.
The Teachers for Global Classrooms program, a program of the Department of State administered by IREX, provides U.S. secondary educators with intensive training in skills, techniques, and methodologies that build their capacity for globalizing classrooms and core curriculum. As part of their program, U.S. teachers will travel to one of the participating host countries for a two-three week visit; in-country consultants coordinate and facilitate this portion of their program.
Duties and Responsibilities
The local education consultant will work with IREX staff to:
• Organize and facilitate meetings with local and national education officials;
• Arrange and lead visit to local schools;
• Design and deliver key presentations on local education system and culture and participant discussion groups;
• Coordinate local cultural and historical site visits;
• Serve as primary liaison for local participants and IREX fellows; and
• Oversee logistics such as, lodging, transportation, etc.
Qualifications
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience in local K-12 education systems;
• Established and verifiable connections with education officials locally and nationally;
• Demonstrated ability to communicate professionally and cross-culturally;
• Experience in event planning and management of travel groups;
• Fluency in English; and
• Strong collaboration, organization, and communication skills.
