Sep 19, 2008 Boston University students will be able to study in Morocco and learn arabic Language, Islamic and North African culture stating 2009. Ms Leilani Olson , the International Programs Director suggested Morocco after a visit in 2007. "I set up contacts and met with language institutions there," Olson said. "I looked in Rabat and Fez and got a feel for each location. There was a consensus for Rabat since it had the best resources for what BU wanted to offer and the most experience with language teaching." Olson declared to the Boston daily Press The program is given through the Center for Cross Cultural Learning in Morocco, which works with several American colleges the Center for Cross Cultural Learning in Morocco was created in 1995, it has been offering programs to a number of American universities and colleges in the US such as Wellesley, City College of New York, Williams, Stanford, Humboldt and Rollins and now, Boston University. The programs include multi-disciplinary lecture series, Arabic language courses, educational excursions, musical performances, and a homestay experience. The content and duration of each program is designed in collaboration with the sending colleges and universities. Moroccan academics that lecture at The CCCL have extended experience in cross-cultural education. Courses in Fus’ha (Standard Arabic) and Darija (Moroccan Arabic) are taught by professionals trained specifically to teach Arabic as a second language. The list of lecturers includes outstanding scholars in the areas of social science, humanities, literature, religion, and architecture as well as artists, journalists, NGO activists, artisans, and craftsmen.
