A Royal Air Maroc Boeing made an emergency landing shortly after take off from Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport on Sunday evening. An engine failed; the probable cause was a collision with birds. No one was injured but the incident was a bit of a shock to passengers. The Air Maroc plane, with 62 passengers and crew on board, took off at 21:10 local time on a regular flight to Nador in Morocco. An Air Maroc spokesperson says a number of birds flew into the engine while the plane was taking off. One of the Dutch passengers says, "I saw the engine explode and smoke was pouring out of the engine on the left-hand side". And plane damage pictures: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Fear Air traffic control at Schiphol cleared a route for the plane to make an emergency landing; the route took the aircraft over the nearby city of Haarlem. The plane was flying at an extremely low altitude and many eyewitnesses said they thought it was going to crash. One eyewitness said, "It was flying extremely low and the pilot was dumping kerosene, you could see it as a sort of trail behind the plane. There was a sort of mist in the street that the plane flew over and smoke pouring out of the back.” Scarecrows Schiphol Airport, along with other every other airport in the world, spends a great deal of time and energy attempting to frighten birds, in order to prevent incidents like the one on Sunday evening from happening. Over the last few years, airport authorities have utilized a variety of methods, including scarecrows, laser beams, air pistols and noisemakers, to keep geese and other birds at least 10 kilometers away from the airport. Schiphol says the number of collisions with birds rose from 4.4 to 7.1 per 10,000 flights in 2009. The number of birds around the airport has increased due to the unusually wet spring weather. Collisions with birds seldom lead to fatal crashes. The last one was in 1996 when a military C-130 Hercules transport plane flew through a flock of starlings on its final descent. The plane crashed and killed 34 passengers. source: radio Netherdland

... Anyone complaining about RAM should not be flying RAM. If you fly a lot and look around, you will realize that RAM fares are reasonable for what they have to offer from the US to Morocco. |
Thanks for the reminder American Patriot

... but we are talking about RAM here, and yes, it has grown for the past 45 years and we expect it to continue to grow. Pekin destination from Casa is scheduled for late 2010, early 2011 Inchallah. We wish RAM sucess as it has only been succesful since its creation and the facts are here to prove it. Keep the negative and entertaining comments/videos coming as RAM really enjoys them. |

RAM is like AIDS and the US DEFICIT To the poster who said that RAM must be a great company because it has grown so much in the last 45 years, I would like to remind you that AIDS infections, the US deficit and Israeli settlementsin the west bank have also grown dramatically over the past 45 years. |
everything that RAM does is topnotch

... otherwise it would have expanded and grown the way it did for the past 45 years. Thank you to all RAM employees and executives for always always putting the passenger's first |

RAM pilots are topnotch Although I am not a big fan of RAM services, its pilots, trained by RAM itself, are topnotch. Not very long ago, RAM pilot school would not honor US pilot licenses due to their poor training (all you need to get a US pilot license is money) and would require anyone with a US license to re-do their training at RAM. RAM pilots consider US licenses to be a joke. RAM pilot school is very professional and produces one of the best airline pilots in the world, including women pilots. You can complain about everything at RAM except its pilots. They take safety very seriously. Next time you fly with RAM, be prepared to get poor service but rest assured that the plane is flown by the best of the best. |

The People singing RAMs Praises are high, and I do not mean high on life. As a country, Morocco has a number of problems. The biggest problem from my perspective is a lack of accountability. RAM embodies this. It is a company run by The Benanni Family have managed to lose money, even though they are subsidized by the governemnt and have a monopoly on direct flights to a number of destinations. The Bennani clan sets the standard for RAM employees. Rest assured, RAM employees do not miss any opportunity to embarass Morocco. I say Embarass because a company that carries the name of my country should reflect a higher level of conduct, not a lower level of conduct. I will not even talk about how RAM is over priced and their website is beyond ineptly put together. In fact, I don't need to, RAM has consistently scored in the bottom rung of all airlines during customer surveys. This all begs the question, how does RAM stay in business if they are so incredibly inept and manage to hemorage money even through they are given money like some common street beggar. I will give you the answer: For his company to continue to carry Moroccos name is a travesty |

... RAM is very serious when it comes to its pilots selection. I applaude the pilot and also all of the RAM staff for always putting its clients first. This incident could have been fatal but thanks to God, it all went just fine. For those who complain about ram prices, its management, rudeness of its staff, .... We have heard you and tired of your complains which are not warranted. If you look at RAM closely, you will see that RAM does everything that is possible to satisfy its passengers. Unfortunately the passengers and the environment are not always in favor of evryone's satisfaction. Big thank you to the RAM pilot and crew for a safe landing and thank you RAM for always raising our flag higher and higher. |

... Anyone who criticize RAM and its prices is oblivious to the airline industry. RAM is not a private company and you all should be lucky that it is not. Once the company is privatized, you all complainers will be begging for the "old RAM". Be thankful to a company who knows how to treat its passengers. RAM is a very respected company and anyone who think the opposite should do his homework or maybe get an education (a real one). The nonsense about supply and demand apply to a lot of situations (buying batata or maticha fsouk) but RAM is not in that business. Do your homework, stop complaining and most importantly DO NOT FLY RAM because RAM does not care about passengers like you. RAM passengers usually NOT ALWAYS have a minimum understanding of the airline industry. For the one who said that RAM incompetence needs to be investigated: |

RAM incompetence needs to be investigated. I think that RAM should be investigated. I for one, believe that the Flight Crew and Ground crew may have acted incompetently, and this may have been the true reason for the engine going out. If there had been a crash, and hundreds of people killed and injured, since the airline is part owned by the govt. that puts the moroccan citizenry on the line for damages. I criticize RAM because it is a welfare recipient. If RAM were a private company that did NOT recieve welfare handouts from the Tax coffers of Morocco, there would be no reason to criticize it, as it would go bankrupt because of the criminal family that runs it. The reason that Many Moroccans, myself included are not satisfied with the, "if you don't like it fly another airline" answer is that our tax dollars go to subsidize this embarassment to our country. RAM shames every Moroccan out there. It is offensive to me, that my tax dollars should go towards lining the pockets some of those who work for and run RAM. Once RAM becomes a private entity, I will never criticize it, but so long as it has a monopoly and is part owned by our government, it needs to be held accountable by Moroccans. |

Economics Basics: Demand and Supply "Supply and Demand is considered as the backbone of a market economy. Demand refers to the quantity of a product or service desired by buyers. The quantity demanded is the amount of a product people are willing to buy at a certain price. Supply represents how much market can offer. The quantity supplied refers to the amount of a certain good producers are willing to supply when receiving a certain price. Therefore, PRICE is a reflection between supply and demand." |

... Al Hamdoulilah nobody was hurt. I would like to salute the pilot for a job well done. My friend: hats off to you!!!! This is Exactly what you guys and job WELL DONE. Some other idiot pilot high on alcohol would have probably dumped the plane in some ditch somewhere. Well done ou nhamdou allah ou nchoukrouh that everyone is safe. For those who are posting comments about prices this has nothing to do with RAM, it is simply the market: RAM "today" has a monopoly on NY - CASA and they will charge what the market can bare (Marketing 101). Everyone else whose posting hate comments: Look: if you don't like RAM (and its "rude Moroccan crew" as I always read) you always have the chance to fly some other airline. There are a number of low cost airline carrier from Europe to Morocco now and an abundance of choice from US to Europe. Perhaps you could choose Air France who has a "great"safety record. Maybe your ass would wind up being eaten by sharks of the cost of NJ like what they did last year down in Brazil that way can stop running your s****d mouth. |

Outcome could have been much worst if it was not of the grace of God Actually that plane had 162 people on board ( Crew + Passengers ) and it was 737-400. The left engine was damaged because of the bird. If you have seen the pictures of the damaged engine you would really appreciate and praise God that the plane got safely on the ground and not only avoided loss of life for folks on-board but also residents in the nearby neighborhood.....Think what would be the first thing to be suspected if such an incident took place. |

RAM stinks Anyone who flies on RAM should have their head examined. Did they determine if RAM ground crews were the real culprits behind this Engine going out? It would not surprise me in the least to learn that the Pilot did not go through pre flight checks properly and that the ground crew were negligent as well. This incident needs to be investigated and RAM needs to be sued by all of the passengers and thoroughly investigated by all Airports allowing RAM to use their facilities. |

... Well, I appreciate the offer but I have to decline it. Long time ago, I made a decision to move to the U.S and I'm not thinking going back any soon. I'm very happy where I'm. My kids are growing in an environment where they can learn, flourish and become responsible. I'm glad I made the move, and I'm glad and thankful to god that I'm living in a great country where my kids will not have to kiss hands and as**s in order to get a job or get promoted like you're doing back home. I don't know if you understand what I'm saying. I doubt it. I don't even know if the words SELF-RESPECT, PRIDE, and DIGNITY do matter anymore to you, apparently not. The reason I'm saying that is because the lousy company you're defending is a fraud. You're taking side of a company who is ripping off people. Now back to our subject, you’re right it's a 737-400. However, I stand firm by my previous comment. The 737-400 has a seating capacity of 146, 62 out of 146 still a bad ratio. Only 42% of the available seats are filled and this is an unacceptable ratio for a company who mean business, unacceptable for a company that is sound and well managed. But here we're dealing with a company (in this case RAM) who is run by an unaccountable entity and an irresponsible fox that leave the broken jars to the Moroccan tax payers to be paid. |

... if you did a little research except believing everything that you read on this site, you will MAYBE realize that it was not a 747. Also RAM is looking for a new CEO, would you be interested? If so, we are looking forward to you lowering prices from NY to Casa. I know YOU and other RAM haters understand airline business |

... What strikes me in this story is how a plane with the size of 747-400 who can carry up to 416 passengers, carry only 62. This gives me an idea how RAM is managed. This is a great example why this lousy company is in the red all the time. Bhima and the bunch of loosers surrounding him need to meet with Herb Kelleher to learn some basics how to run an airline company. |

very shameful website can not even relay facts as is about RAM: """No one was injured but the incident was a bit of a shock to passengers and 747-400""" Do the RME a favor and stop posting articles about RAM unless you can post articles as is without adding your non sense and eronious information to it. The more you post and with all the precious comments, the more RAM is listening. And because they are listening they just increased their prices from JFK to Casablanca from 865 to 1185. Thank you Moroccan Board, RME's in the US love you and we love reading the comments of "the ignorant masses' about RAM |

... If you think the price is high, then use another airline. No one is placing a gun over your head to use RAM. If you just want to complain, that's fine too. the bottom line is , it's your choice, your money, your life, but please don't act as if you are doing RAM a favor. RAM is business and you are the client, if you do not like their business, then seek someone who will cater better to your needs at te price you can afford. RAM can care less about our children or grand children. I have never seen r heard an American coplaining about the price of such or such airlines because when they do not like an airline, they go to another one. Moroccans don't understand this. They want to be lazy and have la RAM come to their door, pick them up and magically transfer them to Morocco for cheaper price. It's not le souk wen can bargain, it's an airline. If you cannot afford Morocco, then drive go camping , it's cheaper, better, and more existing than the hassles and bustles of Morocco or do as I do , send a ticket to someone dear to you to come and spend the summer with you. |

... Morocco too has it own "Chesley Sullenberger III the hudson river hero" . The difference is: We will never hear about the swift decision making of the Moroccan pilot, instead my Moroccan brothers and sisters will curse him for not watching for the birds (labrak, la7man, ou jawj) and some will go as far as blaming him for the price hike. Oh Well, and that's why we love Morocco no matter the pain and the suffering! |
