| Brutal Beating by Spanish Police at Border Post Worsens Diplomatic Relations with Morocco |
| Saturday, July 17 2010 17:05 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
In a statement, the Moroccan Government “vehemently denounces the physical abuse and violence committed today by the Spanish police” against five Moroccan nationals living in Belgium. “Such serious violations that are contrary to all rules of ethics were committed by Spanish border police when they found a Moroccan flag in the car of the victims... the Moroccan government emphatically protests against this unacceptable and unjustified act". The Moroccan citizens have the absolute right to hold their national flag wherever they are, and transport it to their place of residence, Belgium in this case,” the statement said. The spanish police issued this statement following the media coverage of the incident, "The events began when an officer, who was conducting the control of entry at the border post requested documentation from five young people driving a convertible car with Belgian license plates, they ignored the instructions of the agent and, in a clear provocation, they undertook a sharp and prohibited maneuver with their car, invading incoming traffic at border post exit lanes. It is at this moment that several other officers joined in to prevent this action and to ensure the integrity of users of the border site. It is a minor incident where proportionate action was taken to ensure the normal functioning of the border." Since its independence in 1956, Morocco has called for Spain to transfer the sovereignty of Ceuta and Melilla, along with islets such as Perejil, Velez and the pinon de alhuceima, drawing comparisons with Spain's territorial claim to Gibraltar. however, Spain states that both Ceuta and Melilla are parts of the Spanish state, and have been since the 15th century. This latest beating of its citizen is added to a list of grievances by the Moroccan side, like frequent violations of Moroccan maritime and airspace by the Spanish military crafts near the occupied cities of Ceuta and Melilla, the mistreatment of Moroccans living in, or transiting through Spain, the mistreatment of Moroccans seeking to enter the Spanish occupied cities in Northern Morocco, the unfriendly Spanish position towards imported Moroccan Goods to the EU. And perhaps, what riles the Moroccans most is Spain’s political and civilian establishment's sympathy towards Western Sahara separatists; senior Spanish Political and civilian leaders have no qualms about supporting "self determination" for Western Sahara while defending Spain’s occupation of Moroccan territory. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Moroccan Inmigrants in Spain Reading this thread I think that a possible boycotting of Spanish goods given the poor state of the the Spanish Economy as you say, will be a disaster fot Spain. Please don't do it I beg you. Surely you are not going to withdraw Moroccan workers in Ceuta & Melilla and the million odd Moroccan Inmigrants in Spain will come back home to take better paid jobs in better conditions. Please don't do it I cannot bear my life without Moroccans. I have to agree of how much more advanced Morocco is than Spain. Look at Saïdia, a Moroccan Company took over from a Spanish one and finished the whole thing within days at a fraction of the bugeted cost. Saïdia is working like a clock, the best tourist destination in the world, the pride to any Moroccan. Just like the difference in wealth at the Beni Ansar border in favour of Morocco. You cross over from the poor Melilla side with Spanish people begging for food and enter the clean, wealthy enviroment of Morocco. |

Go home! These are lies. If you don't like Spain don't go there, you are not needed. You go there because you are poor! You are not brave enought to face your king and build your own country. |

Violence with Violence Spaniards you can not reason with them, and the are very dialectic, they are cantankerous. I loath violence but in this case it is exculpated. They need to realize that we will not tolerate or endure any or their exploitation to our brothers and sisters who are Moroccans of any citizenship.their paradoxical enigma or superiority need to lay to rest once for all, |

Spaniards are known cowards they still hold the grudge from 8 century of occupation but not oppression of Tariq ibn ziad and the true Muslims . they still have that complexe of inferiority. they might think they are better than us but in reality they are no better than a pile of spanish bull s**t. we are better than them a million time without us they would still be living in caves walking around naked and climbing trees like monkeys just like Tariq found them a 1000 years ago. spaniard monkeys must be kicked out of sebta melilia and the canary island by their own will or by force. being humiliated on our own land wont be tolerated anymore. the king must take advantage of this inhumane act now to start a legal battle. |

Stand up for moroccans The best way to answer back to this kind of violations commited against moroccan nationals: Don't buy Spanish Products Don't buy black market products out of Melia of Ceuta Travel to nothern morocco instead of spain develop more partnership programs with portugal Sell more Moroccan products in Europe thru France and portugal (Olive, olive oil , fish...etc) TANGER MED will kill Algericas economy (Thanks for that) Raise duty on Spanish products Impose a visa on spanish citizens with high fees. Spain sells a lot of goods in morocco...they should be gratefull...and for a country that counts on tourists to pay the bills...they need to start treating their visitor with more respect.... I personaly will NEVER BUY a spanish prduct no matter how cheap or expensive it is...i will buy moroccan Made first...I will NEVER nor any of my family will visit Spain...Morocco is more attractive to me than Spain. My two cents...and to each their own |

What do you do when you have weak leadership? You change your leadership. This is the simple Answer. The leadership of Morocco, and by leadership, I am of course only talking about the Prime Minister and members of Parliament, have failed their mandate. Moroccans are being humiliated in Spain, what are they doing about it? If they insist on continuing to allow Moroccans to be humbled, they need to be voted out of power. A tea bagger movement here in Morocco whereby every single person who is currently occupying a seat in Parliament be voted out. If they are an incumbant, vote them out. At the very least, we will get 600 different criminals occupying Parliament next time around. |

... Dear American citizen NOT treated kindly at the border, If you read my story below, Spain does not make a difference if you are American, Mexican, Moroccan, or any other nationality. I normally do not like to generalize because not all people are the same, but i can safely say that Spanish folks are racist cowards especially toward folks from underdeveloped countries. They have this false sens of superiority. Most anecdotes coming out of that country are not pleasant. Sadly. You are always welcome back to Morocco anytime anywhere! |

What is honorable? These SOBs have gotten away with so much -- all we need it to look at history! What I cannot believe is the Moroccan Gov. silence with regards to the issue of "chemical weapons" that Spain used against very many of our people. When will we learn to take a stand? When will we TAKE our territories back? When will .... When will we speak against the evil doer, Spain? We all understand that when a habit forms, it is hard (not impossible) to break. With that in mind, I wonder what it will take for all Moroccans and their impotent and cowered Gov. to break free from its submissiveness (habits/attitudes) and hold Spain accountable for its past and present crimes against Morocco and its people. Also, Moroccans will need to face up to the reality that their leaders have failed them in the most dishonorable ways possible, and there doesn't seem to be any light at the end of the tunnel. |

American citizen NOT treated kindly at the border I was an American citizen living in Morocco fot two years. I decided to visit friends in Cueta and arrived at the border late one night. I was met with hostility and arrogance by the Spanish border guards. I visited the city but only stayed four hours. I found the experience to be a disappointment. They were arrogant and unfriendly. The city is beautiful but the people leave a lot to be desired. Morocco on the other hand treated me with complete hospitality and kindness for the two years I lived there. Everywhere I went (and I did NOT travel to the tourist places) the people welcomed me and opened their homes to us. I would travel to Morocco again in a heartbeat but would be reluctant to try Spain again. Such a pitty. Say what you will but Moroccans are some of the most loving, beautiful and wonderful people on earth. |

Alternate solution Could be by creating a free and true economic/technological hub of the northern Moroccan territories. This will make Sebta and Melilla useless and a burden to their colonial Gov't, and by result would drive the Spaniards to lessen or give up some of their rigid stand on the issue. Morocco understands that Military option is out of the question. Even Abdelkrim Alkhatabi who started a siege on Melila for 15 days in the beginning of the previous century had order from up above to withdraw... |

... Now Mr., you came to your senses when you are not advocating for a military action against Spain, or better yet, a wishful thinking military action. I totally agree with "create leadership that is accountable to its people", the question is who is going to create these leadership? The regular citizen, the king, or the current leadership? If you ask me, i say none of the above. The regular citizen is powerless, the king has his hands full, the current leadership is not interested that would be a self inflicted hit to their bank accounts. Even though the problem seems to be insurmountable. I do believe that we should start somewhere even with small steps. |

Islamic Bomb- Here come the babies!!! I like it. Have lots of babies and take over spain from the inside? Or maybe make lots of babies to support old Spaniards who will eventually create an apartheid society akin to that already existing in Apartheid Israel. The West is not as s****d as you would believe. They understand the demographics. The solution is passing strict citizen laws and instituting apartheid Policies that make sure that, "true Europeans" still maintain that competitive edge in all aspects of life. This is not without precedent. If you go to Saudi Arabia and have a child there, you will learn everything you need to know about Apartheid and the competitive advantage staying with the, "true citizen". I don't want to pick only on Saudi Arabia; the same holds true for Kuwait and the rest of the artificial Gulf states and despotracies. The real solution is to create leadership that is accountable to its people. Do not count on Europe to maintain its current Democratic leanings, instead demand that your own leadership actually show some courage, morality and sense of justice. The only way to move forward, the only way to prevent Moroccans from suffering the same humiliations over and over again is to stop exiling Moroccans from Morocco; or perhaps for some of Morocco's exiled sons and daughters returning to Morocco to affect positive change. Positive change starts with you. |

... My Mexican friend and his wife who are both PhD holders went to Spain thinking the the common history and language will save them from the Spanish sens of superiority. That did not happen, This couple traveled the world and did not find worse than Spain when it comes to Racism and discrimination. Wile in Spain, they decided to cross to Tangier for a day, they ended up spending the rest of their vacation in Morocco because they were treated with class, hospitality, and kindness. When back to the States, They came and thanked as I were their host. I told them that I just happen to be from there, they said, No, it's more than that, your people made feel at home while the one we thought we had more in common turned out to be a big disappointment. As you can see, Spain does not discriminate when showing how low class they are. Moroccan leaders need to find a way for their people to hold their head high and not be at the mercy of Not so far back poor Spain. As for Mick, what I want to say to you will not be posted so use dumb imagination. |

Learn Morocco's history and stop with B.S. rhetoric What claim does Morocco have on territory that it never owned? When Spain has owned it for 500 years, (400+ years before Moroccan independence), I think that this issue only exists to take away the scandal that the Moroccan crown continues to keep it's citizens in absolute misery. Stop yearning for territory belonging to your neighbor and get rid of/marginalize your ridiculous monarchy! |

... Invasion of Sebta and mellilia? with what? with les petards d'Achoura?? even for those, we need to import them from China. Cowards? coward because they are smart enough not to mess to the military might of Spain that kicked them out Leila Island in few seconds? Sometimes sitting in those Rabat coffeehouses can get to you:)) The only weapon Morocco can use is more babies. Spain has the lowest fertility in the world, Moroccans however makes many babies. In fifty years Spaniards become the minority and Moroccans the majority, take over their parliament overthrow their king and replace with ours and merge with Moroccan territories witch will solve the Sahara problem. Genius hun? While we are at it, we can also merge le Raja de Casablanca with Barcelona and form a team that can win each and every world cup. Military action. Please! |

So what is Morocco going to do about this mistreatment of its Citizens? Morocco will do ABSOULTELY NOTHING> Morocco will behave like the coward in the school yard watching the school bully make passes at his sister and steal lunch money from their younger brother. Morocco has no sense of honour, because if it did, it would launch a military invasion of Ceuta and Mellilia. If you do not fight back, the bully will continue to take what they want from you. If you want to be respected fight back. |

Brutal Beating by Spanish Police This act is not new. From where I live i had many people complaining about the racism they faced while in Spain and many were beating up in Spanish cells. Spain should be ashamed of themselves if i recall history, only 40 years ago many of its citizens were doing cold calling sales in Morocco and it won't take long for that situation to re-appear again. the division is very vast in Spanish history. let them not boast about their stand because they are like glasses leaning on the EU. when the EU wish to scratch its back the glasses will fall apart and completely break. look at the job stats over 20% without jobs. It only takes a fool to believe that ceuta and Melilia are Spanish. |
