| A New Morocco - South Africa Rapprochement ? |
|
| NEWS | |||||||||||||||||||
Officially, the Kingdom of Morocco and South Africa have not much of a relation.Unofficially, even though the Moroccans have little chemistry with the new generation of ANC leaders, links have been established by both sides with the hope of turning the page of a chapter that is represented by former South African foreign Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, who was known, for a over decade, by her anti-Morocco views and positions. The previous Foreign Mister, a former wife of current SA president, Jacob Zuma, now the interior minister, could not "stand" the kingdom of Morocco. She consistently opposed any South African rapprochement with Morocco, favoring, instead, the Pretoria- Lagos-Algiers Axis. Former President Thabo Mbeki, who was intimidated by the forceful character of his minister, went along. Today, things have apparently changed. The current S.A. Minister of Foreign Affairs Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, although he has publicly reiterated the positions of his predecessor, appears to be under the influence of president Jacob Zuma. He is very suspicious of the Algiers-Lagos axis, which he sees more as competitors than as allies. The President of South Africa who still has lot more friends in Algiers than in Rabat has been sensitized to Morocco’s position by two people that he holds in high esteem. The first is Mogan Tsvangirai, leader of the Government of Zimbabwe, who is familiar with the power circles in Morocco. The second one is Sol Kerzner, a billionaire South African and a large investor in Moroccan tourism. Both men are struggling to organize a high level meeting between the leaders of both countries to resolve their differences, and officially turn the page. .. @Moroccan in the US : I'm french, i went to south africa, and to marocco. To your question "where i would rather live ? marocco or south africa ?" For me it's obvious :Marocco ! Why ? Because in marocco's people are so much more open minded, and they are a not racist ! They are less criminality ... South africa is good only for hollydays, not for living ! How many racist jokes and sentence i heard in south africa ? Is that freedom ? That's insanity ...How many s****d south african guy where thinking that if you are frenc you are a "f**kin frog eater", or if you are from holland you are a "f**king weed smoker" ... |

sans to Alia Morocco will never forgive as well....not only to SA but all the ennemies envolved in the dirty task...BTW, what benefits we can get even if the tights became excellent. The Western Sahara issue is more complicated and the most powerful countries (supposely our friends) want it to be `in stand by` forever (algeria and SA are just a rediculos local tools to do so). Moroccan woman stil can give birth to 100s of Youssef ben Tachfine............. |

KNOW what you are talking about @Mohammed MOROCCO You assertions are flat out wrong. How do I know? I have been to SA and interacted with you whites and blacks. Plus, I still have relatives living in SA. Here is a little bit about SA: 1. Some of the whites I met refer to blacks are SAVAGES literary. 2. There is NO safety to speak of. Wherever you look, you see barbwire and electrified fences. 3. Many blacks standing at the street corners wear black gown/jacket with the following markings on it: Black listed. When I inquired about what that meant, I was told that those folks claim they can be hired because they are on database (i.e., blacklisted database) for those that should be offered jobs. I couldn't leave my hotel room because I didn't feel safe. |

Economically, there is nothing to gain, politically nothing either, culturally?, socially?. I don't really see anything positive in this bilateral relations that you dreame of. remember that South Africa Apartheid supported Morocco with weapons during their occupation of Western Sahara. do you think south african are so s****d to forget this... dreams, empty dreams.. be objective and show us something practical, words are easy to say.. my best wishes to all of you and Id Mubarak |

both countries have a lot to gain i both nations have a lot to gain from each other if normal relations were to be established. But unfortunatly some South African Officials do not see the potential benefits that would stem from such cooperations, instead they choose to blindly support the megre regime of the so called western sahara Republic which is loosing its popularity and support day after day . |

South Africa has Freedom, Morocco does not If you ask anyone who has been to South and Morocco, where they would rather live, the answer is obvious; South Africa. Despite the higher crime rate, South Africa offers freedom to its citizens. South Africa and Morocco both have serious problems with unscrupulous leaders and corrupt officials, but in South Africa, at least they have a free press, and the spirit of accountability. I hope South Africa is able to positively influence Morocco. |

... South Africa chose which side they want to be with, there is no changing mind. Morocco's needs to embrace democracy and rule of law to stick it to SA and Algeria. Without any accountability, any effort will remain a wishful thinking for better things to come. |
