| Sam Kaplan, in the Footsteps of former US Ambassador to Morocco, Thomas Riley |

I cannot even begin to describe the impact that he made over those five years...the countless trips he made with his wife Nancy all over the country, donating their time and support to organizations like Operation Smile, The Hassan II Foundation for Handicapped. He has visited and spent time with children from orphanages across the country, he has helped build schools, has donated truckloads of American clothing and soccer uniforms to villagers and even flew in apple orchard specialists from the states to help a tiny village understand and profit from their produce.

Are we talking about the same guy here? I agree with Mr Germelou 100%. Your description of Riley is false, underinformed and a little too brownnosy for a Moroccan forum. US diplomacy is undermined by naming fundraisers and "friends of" as ambassadors. A professional ambassador should be sent out to Morocco to make up for the lost Riley years. Riley's only claim to fame is the fact that he was Bush's room mate in Harvard. Kaplan, what ever you do, do not follow Riley's footsteps or try to fill his shoes as Cindy says. My korean dry cleaner can better fill Riley's shoes if sent out to Morocco as a US ambassador. Hope State will wisen up and seriously train Kaplan before shiping him over to Rabat. Inshallah his handlers at State will not forget to give him (and his wife for that matter) the newly State issued ego deflator (it comes with batteries). Jimmy Hendrix's Morocco is long gone people. |

For Mr. Kaplan, the only unfortunate part of being assigned to what some refer to as "the goldmine" of US posts, is the fact that he has to follow in the footsteps of the former US Ambassador to Morocco, Thomas Riley.
