WHY WE ARE ALWAYS NEGATIVE
my first time i heard about this camp it's a good chance for our kids to know about our home culture and education, my kids maybe have zero chance to be in this camp but i will support and encourage the Moroccan administration in charge, i don't care if moroccan sister Nadia start the program or the Moroccan Embassy, just we need to be more positive give more support, personally i called the Embassy for more information about the camp and someone called back very polite, he answer to all of my questions and that what we need in our administration , please support and thank the persons involved and encourage them . i am personally giving all my support. thank you allah maakoum

If Nadia Serhani did the leg work,as you said, why didn't she say so, and why she did not try to publicize it?
The consul is the one that did the outreach!!!

Thank Ms.Serhani Instead Of The Embassy
The embassy deserves no credit whatsoever for this initiative. Nadia Serhani, US rep.to the Conseil Supérieur des Marocains résidant à l'Etranger (CCME), is the one who worked tirelessly on this, and should, therefore, be thanked for her effort and service to the community.

I agree w. maghribia!!
Why are you guys negative about anything the Moroccan Gov't does even if it's trying to enrich these kids with home culture and education?
Please try to be more positive. After all, not all the Gov't is bad. There is some good and some bad. We need to identify the good and encourage the embassy for such efforts. Otherwise don't blame them if they don't act with reactions like these.

The only sidenote I have to make is that I feel a bit of prejudice against kids with mental development issues. They can easily require the parent to travel with the kid and allow them to experience this rich adventure, rather than shut them out.

Thank you EMBASSY OF MOROCCO IN US

Dear Nadia Serhani,
I happen to disagree with you, Criticizing is a good thing. When I criticize you, I push you to be better and If I don't, I will give you the impression that all is good when if fact it is not. You should think of critique as a good thing, We can never be better if no one points to our flaws. If I See that the Moroccan embassy has nothing on their site regarding the initiative, Perhaps an embassy staff or His excellency the ambassador himself will say " Hummmm this guy is right, this initiative is a good thing and no one will know about it if I don't advertise it" The Hassan II foundation has nothing on their web site either. Posting this info will cost nothing and can be done in 20 seconds or less and will also quiet those of think that the names are already selected no wonder no one is saying a thing about it ( other than moroccoboard).
Besides if some of us criticize is because we care, If someone had criticized the organizing committee of Mawazine, we won't have 12 people dead.

the application form is in French and Arabic, I like to remind those folks that English is the first language in the planet. An English translation would help.
These small details are very important. Many Moroccans are married to people who do not speak Arabic nor French and they are usually the one responsible for the kids, An English translation can be very helpful to those folks.
I know that the truth hurts and for those who are asking us to be quiet, I say try to deal with it. it is not that hard.

MohammedB, I still think you are a funny boy.

The negative brigade headed by "Hmimarmad" will always see the empty half of the cup. they are, unfortunately, terminally traumatized by their experience in Morocco. So there is no point in talking to them.

As for the rest of us, even though Moroccan Administrations is inept for the most part, we should encourage worthy individuals who go beyond the call of duty, work hard and initiate positive initiatives. A prominent example is the former Consul in Washington, Mr. Hassan Khantash, and current consul Mr. Kassimi who is, now, trying hard to include Moroccan American kids in the yearly Summer camps organized in Morocco.
even though the number of kids going to camp is small and the announcement timing is late, we should thank the individuals involved and encourage others that show leadership.

Thank you for the article and for disseminating the goods news. I just want to point out that few of us here, including myself have been working directly with the Fondation Hassan II since Janurary of this year to finally have the FH2 seriously consider duplicating the same program for our Moroccan-American children.
The quota was supposed to be more than 10 children, as I got a confirmation about it. I just hope our people would encourage this small step no matter how small it is. Criticizing everything to no avail is not a good thing. We want the same services as our fellow Moroccans in Europe, so we should accept and build upon the modest and good-faith gestures coming our way from the East.

Thank you.

Maghribia,
The purpose of this initiative is to attract Moroccan living abroad to travel to Morocco to fill up the Moroccan Government coffers. The are not doing it because they miss us. Most of people entertaining the idea of entering the drawing for sending their kids to these camps will accompany their children which in turn attract capital. For the Moroccans to come in waves, the Moroccan government needs to fix Morocco first, when we know that our travel to Morocco is as good as seeing our loved one, we will do everything possible to come over more often and therefore spend more often. This camp business cost a lots of money, that money could be well spent on Moroccans who are in the travel business, I remember when the Government went after the hustlers in Marrakesh chasing tourists in Jamaa lafna, that was a huge success and brought more foreign tourists to Marrakesh, When M6 stopped by Tangier's port to welcome Moroccans, that was a nice PR move, and Moroccan felt proud and welcome.
If you go the embassy's web site ( DC or NY) there is no mention of this initiative on their web site. That's shameful. His Excellency the ambassador should push his staff to take their job a bit more serious , this is not Morocco where lax is the mean. His Excellency needs to know that Public Relations is a big part of the solution, He also needs to know that when things go wrong or don't look good, he's the first one to be blamed and the opposite holds true.
He is doing a good job talking to people about how beneficial is to invest in Morocco, but talk is cheap, because investing in Morocco can easily turn into a nightmare.
Anyway good luck to those who chose to participate in the drawing and may god be with them and their children.

How about kids in the NW
I personally think that our kids that live too far from NY are forgetten it sounds like the embassy only cares about people living on the east side not taking in consideration us who live half way to NY. Me for exemple if i want to send my kid to this camp i will have to spend as much as a round trip ticket to morocco for both me and my girl. If they really want to do somthing for the community they need to extand the services a little bid farther than NY.

Absolutely, no way i will entrust my kids to our Embassy employees, they can't even pick up the phone when you call them, and it takes them ages to return any documents you send them , and you want us to trust them with our kids, no way Jose

Many will probably disagree with me. I would not entrust my small children to any embassy staff. it's too risky. Besides I do not think that is money well spent, that Money could be spent on Moroccan living in Morocco, those are the one who need a helping hand the most. How about those children who beg at the entrance of the camp while their parents are watching? I am aware that some are probably saying " Damned if you do and damned if you don't with these Moroccans". I say to them, you are right but you also have to see the pattern when Morocco organize something. Few weeks ago, a dozen of people died in Rabat because of a stupid fence.
The other thing if his Excellency the ambassador wants to help Moroccan children living in the US, why not help them here? why not send them to Disneyland where it is much safer and cheaper and their parents might even join them. I guess that's not economically viable for Morocco.
I really do not see how anyone living here will send his child to Morocco worry-free.
I know I sound negative, I am sorry but i see thing based on previous patterns. If you call a plumber to come to fix your plumbing issue and he screws up, will you call for his service again?
