Washington / Morocco Board News- The Moroccan telephone operator, Maroc Telecom, has blocked access to several sites that provide free VoIP telephone service to its users. The ban has also affected access to TeamSpeak and many other services that provide the VoIP functionality.
This decision has been taken by Maroc Telecom, which is know for its predatory commercial practices, for the purpose of shielding itself against competition and pushing its users to pay for its services and stop using free online services, like Skype, TeamSpeak, Viber and others.

Absolute rip off! And they say things are changing in Morocco...how are they changing for the worst? definitely, education is bad, unemployment rising, monopoly to a few rip off companies! Why block Skype rather than block Porn sites and sites that radicalises youngsters. Obviously that's exactly what they want to look at so they don't get involved in politics or think for themselves! Skype has nothing to do with Maroc Telecom, its not their Business if its free or not and they should stay out of it!...Skype is free all over the world. Maroc Telecom is just "une carrie dentaire", and what does anyone do when they have one? Take it out completely....hence they should all go to Meditel and inhilate Maroc Telecom for good! |

9.26 DH per share - YEAH!!!! I hate everything about Maroc Telecom except their stock. You really can't go wrong with purchasing their stock because Morocco's Masters in France will not allow Maroc Telecom to not make money, and somehow not make what seems an unbelievable dividend payout! I bought at 137 DH - and to get an almost 10 Dh dividend is beyond Amazing! I can only explain this by the fact that Moroccans worship all things French, like an abused, often raped woman who comes to appreciate the violation of her person and integrity, Morocco seems intent on maintaining France and all things French as their Masters. I would say more, but I like living in Morocco and do not need a visit from the DST goons! |

Viber an Skype working for me with Maroc Telecom I am a subscriber ADSL Internet and Mobile with Maroc Telecom, and I assure you that I use every day Viber and skype, I call my brother almost every day in Laayoune in southern Morocco, and also my friend in Saudi Arabia without any problem with 3G and WiFi, sometimes the quality of networks is not the top but most importantly for me is that it works. |

Potential legal claims against Maroc Telecom I'm Moroccan, and a US attorney based in DC. I'm aware of a multitude of issues that Moroccan community members are having with Maroc Telecom. I would be inclined to research the legal implications and potential liability exposure caused by Maroc Telecom's business practices. There are various legal theories under which claims can be made, namely potential violations of International Treaties and bi-lateral agreements with the EU and the US under the WTO framework. I'm happy to prusue this cause of action if there appears to be enough interest among the community. If interested please contact me at this address: kbeyoud@gmail.com. Maroc Telecom is within their legal rights Maroc Telecom is within their legal rights to block any website they want. They can just say that it is the Government telling them to block it and the government can always site National Security interests. Technically, the govt. has a hard time tracking all skype calls (US govt. does not) - so it becomes very expensive for Moroccan authorities to listen in and record all these conversation - to say nothing of the bandwidth that these calls take. If Maroc Telecom charged internet users based upon bandwidth, like in say, South Africa or Egypt - then it would not be an issue, but from their economic perspective, they are using an inordinate amount of bandwidth to subsidize competition that is destroying their long distance profits. When you add to this the backwards, jobs for life mentality co mingled with the idea that they do not owe the Moroccan people anything more than the government does (NOTHING) - why should they care if they block a service? I am more concerned about the complete lack of customer care that you come to expect when dealing with any of their agencies. To me that is a much more serious problem than blocking Skype - which has not kicked in yet by the way, which is why most of you are still able to use skype. Those of you who plan to use different ISP providers like MTDS will be in for the same blockage if the government opts for the National security defense of their action. Long story short, The problem lies with the Terrorists who run Maroc Telecom, not anywhere else. |

... Ahmed11 yes sure you will get all skype users boycotting Maroc Mafiacom, equally I will see the pigs flying. Dont you understand the problem in Morocco? it is not the ruling elite or their associates it is the people. So what Maroc mafiacom has blocked skype, the attitude is well we all suffer so why should anyone protest. If Maroc Mafiacom was in an half decent country it would have not survived, the reason it survives in Morocco is because of the great corrupt patronage of M6 and his merrymen and women. I used to pay a fortune in Maroc Mafiacom factures until I kicked them out for their expensive service and non existence customer service, the staff could not give bit or a byte, why should they, they got cushy jobs for life I suppose. The competition is no better either as it does not have any clout and limited coverage. does anyone understand the mindset at the top? if they want to be commercially successful in business, it has to offer all it takes to secure business and overseas investment. Has anyone notice the number of film festivals being stage in Morocco? |

People get what people deserve I am surprised that the freebie lasted this long, this act by Maroc Mafiacom is nothing but the reflection of the Maroc government, keep everything for the ruler and elite. I suppose the people deserve what they cannot fight for or just lethergic. |

Any other fixed line operators available in Casablanca? Any other operators in Casa who provide fixed line internet? Is the mobile internet fast and reliable enough, who is the best operator to switch to? |

MR This is a very bad move. Intenet and telephone are very expensive in Morocco compared to any other countries in Africa and Europe. So let us boycott Maroc Telecom and force it to reverse their decision. Like many companies in Morocco, customer service in Maroc Telecom is inexistence. They do not understand the meaning of customer service yet. If phone or internet is down for 20 days for whatever the reason, Maroc telecom still want you to pay even if you have raised the issue with them. So let us start spread the news for a boycott using all means available ( YouTube, Twitter …..). |

Try MTDS, they don't block Skype I need to use Skype for our business. We use Maroc Telecom at our home but we use MTDS (another hosting company that competes with Maroc Telecom). Their protocol currently allows skype. You can find them at MTDS and add the dot com at the end. |

... This is absolutely absurd! I guess I will be using my VPN then to access the free web! Perhaps all the Maroc Telecom users should switch over to Meditel internet and let them reap from their greed! |

This is a bad move - but I expect no less from them Maroc Telecom is about as Customer friendly as napalm gas. Their employees are rude and about as smart as belly button lint. It takes years of practice to become incompetent enough to work for Maroc Telecom. It is not all bad though, if you own Maroc Telecom stock, you can count on continuing to get record high dividends - Vivendi knows this - Long live the Neo colonialism of Morocco! |
