Yet again, real-world examples pop up on the importance and value of ethnic recruitment efforts. Slowly but surely, more attention is being paid to specialized markets, but many times, multicultural outreach gets placed on the backburner and its need only gets recognized in reaction to a crisis or with remaining budgets. I came across an article a little over a week ago about a specific U.S. Army program, Mavni (Military Accessions Vital to National Interest), that enlists immigrants here on temporary visas. Those who are promising recruits can become citizens in as short as a month—extremely favorable compared to the potential decade-or-more wait the old fashioned way.

01/29/10 -- Morocco urged the United Nations and the countries concerned by finding a "prompt" solution to the Sahara issue, to make Algeria assume its "full, active and constructive" responsibility in seeking a settlement to this dispute
"It is high time the United Nations, and the countries concerned by finding a prompt solution to this dispute, make Algeria assume a full, active and constructive responsibility, in proportion with the part it played in the outbreak and persistence of this regional conflict and its apparent involvement in all stages of its evolution," Morocco's Foreign Minister Taib Fassi Fihri said in a letter to the UN Secretary General.

The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services had decided last week to change the questions concerning the citizenship test. Many immigration attorneys, if not all, have concluded that these newly issued questions are very hard for an ordinary person. They also feel that this change will make it more difficult to obtain U.S. Citizenship.
The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Director Emilio Gonzalez announced the release of these new questions and answers for the pilot test of a new naturalization exam.
As an attorney, I have never seen questions of this caliber before. Try to ask some native borne U.S. Citizens these questions and see if they can answer them. Many of my American-born neighbors could not answer these questions.

The Moroccan/American community in Washington, DC was terribly disappointed to read in the press that Aminatou Haidar has once again managed to distract attention away from the real issues in the Sahara with false accusations of abuse and distortions of the real facts.
Our community here in the capital of the United States has learned much from our American experience, but among the most important things that we have learned is the value of accurately communicating real facts to the American people who are often not well informed about the good relations between our two nations and the attempts by others to distort those facts for their own advantage.

01/30/10---The Moroccan law, which lays down not only rights and guarantees, but also duties and responsibilities, "applies and will apply to the Moroccan Sahara in accordance with the international practice," Moroccan Foreign minister Taïb Fassi Fihri said in a letter to the UN Secretary General.

In an opinion piece in the Moroccan daily Aujourd'hui Le Maroc, columnist Omar Dahbi criticizes Islamists who condemn terror attacks against Muslims, but not terrorism as such.
The following are excerpts:
Are They Condemning the Act Itself or the Targeting of Muslims?
"...When an Islamist leader or Imam condemn 'the terrorist act that targets the lives of Muslims,' this poses a real problem. What are they condemning, the act itself or the fact that it targeted Muslims? When they invoke hadiths that attest to the sanctity of 'Muslim blood' in their arguments, does this not legitimize, at the same time, the killing of 'infidels'?

The U.S. ethnic and racial composition has significantly changed since 2000 and is projected to continue growing after the 2010 Census. The Census Bureau is making important strides to inform and assist a wide variety of ethnic communities and language groups including outreach efforts to the Arab American community.
One way the U.S. Census Bureau and its partners hope to increase participation of Arabic speakers is through language assistance materials. Language Assistance Guides will provide in-language help to answer the English-language census form. Additionally, Arabic-language 2010 Census brochures, fact sheets, and frequently asked questions are available for download on the Census Bureau Web site, www.2010census.gov.

Captain Paul Watson
The Yakuza controlled Japanese whaling fleet left Japan yesterday and have officially begun their 6,000 mile voyage to the remote waters of the Australian Antarctic Territory. Their intention is to slaughter 925 protected Antarctic Minke whales and 50 endangered Fin whales inside the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary in violation of the global moratorium on commercial whaling and in violation of the Antarctic Treaty.
These people are poachers. They are criminals and they are engaged in the remorselessly cruel slaughter of the largest, most intelligent and most socially complex sentient beings in the oceans.
