| Press Release On Amintou Haidar |
|
The Moroccan/American community in Washington, DC was terribly disappointed to read in the press that Aminatou Haidar has once again managed to distract attention away from the real issues in the Sahara with false accusations of abuse and distortions of the real facts. Our community here in the capital of the United States has learned much from our American experience, but among the most important things that we have learned is the value of accurately communicating real facts to the American people who are often not well informed about the good relations between our two nations and the attempts by others to distort those facts for their own advantage. We were very encouraged to read in the American and international press that Secretary Hillary Clinton once again clearly affirmed while she was in Morocco recently the policy of the United States in support of Morocco's proposal to settle the Sahara problem based on Morocco's autonomy initiative. This has been the policy of the Americans since the government of President Bill Clinton. We were not surprised that the Polisario Front and their supporters like Aminatou Haidar would try to find ways to draw attention away from the real issue here with false accusations. Our community here in Washington, DC and elsewhere in the United States is very proud of the progress we have made at home on political and social reform and human rights under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohamed VI. We hope that our official representatives here in America and at home will continue to insist that the rule of law is what matters in cases like this and not propaganda. We know that our country has a strong story to tell on the progress we are making at home and we are proud to be able to help carry that message here in America. We also know that the Polisario Front and its supporters like Aminatou Haidar are desperate to keep people from hearing the truth about the Sahara and about the abuse that they are causing our Sahrawi brothers and sisters in the refugee camps in Algeria. Here in America the truth is starting to be heard. We urge all our family at home in Morocco to continue to support the noble effort of our government to bring that truth to light and pledge our continued to support to do all we can here in America to help that cause. Much ado about nothing? By publicly acknowledging Aminatou Haidar's hunger strike, Morocco's government has only contributed to her propaganda campaign and flattered her ego some more. Good for her... but she'll enjoy her little "victory" only if her survival instincts prevail over her stubborn mind and she quits acting silly. If not, good riddance: one less enemy to our national territorial integrity. |

... to kferiali The press release source is clearly noted at bottom. no excuse for confusion! as for Aminatous's innocence or duplicity, for many it is obvious. She is the best thing Polisario-Algeria going for them. she looks so meek and yet, for all practical purposes, she is simply trying to keep the tindouf refugees marooned in the desert for another 25 years to come and Morocco draining its resources in the desert hole. As for her being a "western Saharan", only a demented Algerian General, a Spanish right winger, a crocodile-teared Iberian artist or a self serving polisrian would believe in such nonsense. The Moroccan services have for a long time worked hard to ignore her until she blew in their faces. Get back to reality. bro |

... I'm pleased to see that this item has been opened up for comments. I'm still disappointed that it misleadingly carries the MBN logo. Its intimidatingly absolutist, patently non-credible reference to all Moroccans in DC and in the US, and its conspiracy theory-laden language comically mimic makhzen-style propaganda. I personally affirm Morocco's territorial indivisibility based on solid ethnological, human rights, and geo-economic reasons. However, I realize that the dispute hasn't been resolved internationally and that, in the meanwhile, our government has no business kicking out Saharans on the basis of how they fill out airport entry forms. As a Moroccan, I feel deeply nauseated by the rabid, hateful mobilization still leveled by thousands of co-patriots against a woman on a month-long hunger strike, peacefully exercising her right to disagree. |

Do it for your country Some posters are saying that they don't care about the Sahara affair. First, we have to make sure that they are real Moroccans as they say or just posting to divide the Moroccan opinion about this very vital issue to all Moroccans. I don't believe there is a Moroccan that can say that the Sahara is not Moroccan, not from fear, at least here since most of us are citizens of the USA. Ms Haidar is getting most of the attention because we are at most thinking the "Sahara is Moroccan period". And Morocco has an army to defend it. It is my duty and my obligation for the country of my parents to defend it from the ones that want it divided. The least I can do is to just speak out against Algeria and its "puppet" Polisario and the likes of Ms Haidar regardless if I like the Moroccan government or not. |

here we go again this sahara issue is apparently very heated subject. what i just don't get is why this forum is so concerned about this issue. there're so many other issues that are far more important for ordinary moroccans. when i speak with my fellow moroccan friends, nobody actually gives much about the sahara issue. im amazigh and i must say i give these sahrawis credit for fighting for their rights, for their language, for their idendity. we imazighen on the other hand are just part of arab morocco and for some reason many imazighen doesn't see any problem with that. imagine if imazighen in morocco had the same mind as the kabyles in algeria or sahrawis in morocco. regarding weather western sahara is a part of morocco is hard to say, i think this issue is to complicated to decide weather it is or not |

... If Aminatou insist to go back to Morocco, then she should face the military court for complotting against her country, she is definitely spying for Algeria. |

... Aminatou has been not but a pain in the butt of Fassi Fihri. She is an extremely smart woman and I do not see what M6 does not assign Nawal El moutawakil to be the minister of Saharan affairs. She is famous, articulate and very patriotic perhaps she lacks experience in this field but that should not prevent us from countering the Polisario and Algeria with what they shoot at us. Nawal could be just what Morocco needs. She will get a lot of understanding from other countries, Having this guy ould rachid from the corcas is simply a joke. The war of the sahara is now played in the media and Algeria is doing good job using people like aminatou , Nawal is what Morocco needs. Please post. |

... Aminatou Haidar renounced her citizenship. What else does she want from Morocco? Begging her to keep it is not an option. Citizenship is a natural right but can not be forced upon people. |

What are the "real facts" and the "real issues"? You write in your press release that Mrs Haidar has managed to distract attention "from the real issues in the Sahara with false accusations of abuse and distortions of the real facts". Now I wonder what are the "real issues" and the "real facts" that are being distorted? Unfortunately you don't deal with this more specifically in your press release. |
