I am a Moroccan Amazigh Woman!
NAJAT F. KESSLER

tweeter rss

I am beautiful, feminine and defiante! I scare the hell out of men who have a mentality from the cave ages.
They are mesmerized by my charms and confused by my audacity. They don't know what to do or how to behave with me for I do not fit to any of their molds. Yet when they meet me they feel uplifted from their darkness...they want what I have but are also scared that their little girl or woman back home come across me an learns my ways.....so scared of feminity that I dare to wear in every way...the way I walk, I talk, I breath....The man of the cave is scared of this vulnerable strength of mine...I have the audacity of being free despite all my conditions....the man does not know how to be free...he has been beaten to submission...he can't even dream about being free ...let alone fathom that women in his surroundings can be free...He goes to his wife, daughter, and cowardly calls me a "whore" because the poor soul does not know how to be free...in secret he dreams about me...In reality he craves to be free and lively as I am....

By God I am a woman

By God I am a woman and these are my nipples,
If you can’t stand them look the other way!
I shall not cover my body,
I shall not lower my voice,
I shall not lower my gaze,
By God I am a woman and these are my nipples,
If you can’t stand them look the other way!
I will look at you right in the eye!
And see through your shivering soul,

Don’t make up rules to cope with your own fears,
And call them Divine rules, they are not,
If the Divine meant for a woman to be covered,
The Divine would have made women with feathers,
By God I am a woman and these are nipples,
If you can’t stand them look the other way!

I shall not cover my body,
I shall not lower my voice,
I shall not lower my gaze,
By God I am a woman and these are my nipples,
If you can’t stand them look the other way!
I am beautiful, I am sensual, and I am an enchanting desire,
No, I am not here to pull you down,
No, I am not here to cause your fall from grace,
You long ago forgot about grace,
I am here to Dance with harmony,
I am here to Live with passion,
I am here to Vibrate with life,
I am here to Give life,
I am here to Embody the Divine,
I am here to Remind you of what you forgot,
You inner state of Grace!

I think Najat has been combating her demons for quite some time now, at least from what I remember back during the Wafin days. I agree with the poster above that stated that this has to do with old wounds. I have to admit though that Najat has grown wiser and more mature. Back then, she used to call all those that disagree with her as fascist islamists.

Hi Najat,
I liked your poem. It has strong sensuality and power. It is full of passion that we do not always have a channel to express in our culture.

I can identify with the feeling of being a woman aware of her femininity. I can identify that all this energy can be a bit overwhelming to our conservative society.

Passion is part of life and we should embrace it as we embrace the mind.

Respectfully,
Nabila

Fashist? Islamist?
You actually made me smile. I thank you for that. That was a cheap shot from your part which is very indicative of your own deep shortcomings in life and lame personality and judgment. And by the way, you have your geography mixed up; the ‘ayatollahs’ are from Iran not Morocco.
For your own information, I am actually a proud American U.S. Marine. Now, I will not dignified you further with more words as I let you dive into deep whole of ignorance and shame. You are a disgrace to your self and to your family!

Ayatollah Amin Guenoun is a known islamist with fascist tendencies.
He is for a hard line shari'a law and he is, I think, the type of "man" Ms Kessler had in mind when she wrote her poem.
Mr Ayatolah Amin Guennoun, if you have missed this pertinent section in najat's poem, here it is again, for your special consideration

Or should I paraphrase it in another way, Mss. “Amazigh Woman”. I have few points to address if I may.
The degree of your apparent confusion about where you stem from and who you are pretending to be is quite stark from the outset of your ‘poem’. I am a Moroccan American, born in Morocco and very proud of preserving my identity, the one of my forefathers. As I am trying to have a better grasp of your delusional situation, I could not find a reason to justify your ‘poem’ if you want to call that, other than it is coming from a foolish little girl who is allured by mini-skirts and cheap sexual experiences.
Although I went to Universities in the States and lived the realm of American experiences, you won’t find me as a half-naked punk strolling down the street with tats and shorts down to my knees. It is simply not me, and I have no desire in personalizing people of that kind anyway.
I command you for at least recognizing that you are Amazigh. The problem with that is I don’t believe your dignified Amazigh people would testify to the same about their tights to you. I am not Amazigh, and if I were one, I would certainly be embarrassed for you if not ashamed of your demeanor and assertions.
Although you can do what you wish and express yourself as you may, your proclaimed words of personal freedom in this article speak of something totally other than that. They surely dwarf anything silly I have seeing here in the last 35 years.
If you revisit your background and your amazing Amazigh ancestry, your might just reconsider all your blasphemous statements above.

To "Moroccan Amazigh Woman"
First of all, “I am beautiful, feminine and defiante”, it’s not up to u to determine and confirm this, it’s a selfish way to express herself. Second, “ I scare the hell out of men who have a mentality from the cave ages. They are mesmerized by my charms and confused by my audacity”, who have you told this? You think by only your body you will own the world, don’t forget that your beauty is temporary and when you get older you will change completely so, don’t be so happy for this. Furthermore, when I read the title of your article, I have the impression that all Moroccan amazigh woman are like you. Well, that’s wrong so don’t speak in the name of these decent and respectful amazigh woman. When you have said “the man does not know how to be free », how do u know this? i have a question for you? do freedom mean being naked “I shall not cover my body » or being so dissolute “By God I am a woman and these are my nipples” or daring person who speaks in the name of God by saying:
“If the Divine meant for a woman to be covered,
The Divine would have made women with feathers”
Finally, I was wondering are u really happy? Tell me

I praise your assertiveness and your audacity, but be careful sweetie not to cross the line of decency. It is about you and your self-respect. You have nothing to prove to anyone. You know nothing about those "spouses" back home. HE may be "mesmerized by your charms and confused by your audacity", but you don't know what "treasure" he has back home: a gem, a wonderful spouse and a great mother to his children. Stay away from what was the root to cover a woman in the first place.
We need to work toward proving that we can live side by side without "menacing or intimidating". Ultimately, we will! The best to you..

What is?
"I scare the hell out of men ..." she says with an underlying joy.

What I see/find here isn't defiance or a rebellious spirit to chant about but a pitiful attempt at resolving old wounds. This is a battle with men you seek and the certainly NOT the path to harmonious coexistence with all.

I hope to see you write about love.

Calm downs gents. She is a poet and she is entiteld to express herself the way she feels right. I think all of you took some kind of litterature classes (i.e., Arabic, French or English) and understand that the word "nipples" here is just a Symbol.

For those of you who are fan of Arabic Litterature, Ihassan Abd Al koudouss wrote a poem that is somehow similar. I think it is title was letter to an "Arab Sheikh".

You might as well walk down the street and let the ladies " Nipples" Tan. It's totally okay. Some people have taken the definition from different angle. They might call you " Cool" in the american Society but will be called something totally different in the moroccan community. I guess you are smart enough to figure it out yourself.

This is a very ongoing strategy to exotize/erotize brave Amazigh women. We only may care about your mind not you nipples Madam. Stop tagging Amazigh all what is off stream and narcissistic falls feminism.
